POSITION SUMMARY

• To ensure the effective operation and maintenance of Councils’ potable water supply, including rectification of faults, so as to ensure a continuous supply of potable water to the residents of Napranum. • To ensure effective operation and maintenance of Councils’ sewerage scheme, including rectification of faults, so as to ensure sewerage treatment is compliant with the Environmental Protection Authority licence.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Ensure that all facilities are in good working condition and are able to supply potable water and sewerage services to the community.
  • Be available to respond to breakdowns and emergencies as directed and required.
  • Ensure all vehicles, tools and equipment, are used, maintained and stored in the correct manner and in accordance with Council policies, work health and safety and current legislative regulations.
  • Provide all necessary reports to the regulators in a timely manner e.g. Drinking Water Quality Management Plan, Community Health Audits, etc. water and sewerage reticulation systems, pumps and all other non-current assets.
  • Comply with all of Councils’ policies including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, Drug and Alcohol Policy, Smoking Policy and Workplace Bullying and Harassment Policy.
  • Promote, within the community the opportunity to train as an Essential Services Officer and provide training within your area of expertise.
  • In accordance with work, health and safety legislation, ensure that you and the team work safely and comply with Council’s work health and safety policies and procedures.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Certificate IV in Water Operations or equivalent.
  • Certificate IV in Leadership and Management or equivalent, or
  • Relevant experience and demonstrated interest in managing staff and programs.
  • Current “C” class QLD licence.
  • Proven experience in operating both gaseous Chlorine and Sodium Hypochlorite potable water disinfection plants.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and to implement time management principles to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team and alone.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and with limited supervision whilst exercising initiative, sound judgement and enthusiasm.
  • Intermediate computer skills e.g. Microsoft Suite.
  • Proven experience in operating and interpreting a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system (SCADA).
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Sound decision-making skills including an analytical approach to problem solving.
  • Proven experience working and communicating effectively in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Strong understanding of work health and safety in the workplace and safe work practices.
  • Be physically fit and healthy to be able to meet the requirements of the position.
  • Understanding of Local Government.
  • Prior experience working in a remote environment.
  • Prior experience working in an indigenous community.
  • Senior First Aid or willingness to obtain.
  • Confined Space Entry or willingness to obtain.
  • Agree to a Commonwealth Police check.
  • Ability to obtain and retain a Working with Children Blue Card.
  • Current White card (Construction Safety Induction).
